Class of 2019

Dear Parents and Caregivers of the Class of 2019:

Thank you for attending the final graduation meeting for the class of 2019!  All of the details for activities surrounding   graduation are listed below.

Graduation Fee:  the $100 graduation fee was due May 1st.  You may pay it tonight if you haven’t already!  This fee covers caps, gowns, the luncheon, venues, refreshments, photography, and program.  Graduation programs will be a keepsake item in which each student is featured on his or her own page.  There will be a professional photographer at the luncheon and graduation, and photos will be for sale through the photographer following graduation.  TCS@ODU will provide the family with a print of your student receiving his or her diploma. Please see Ms. Konet, Mr. Rosenfield, or Ms. Wiedenhoft if you have not yet paid or need to make special arrangements. 

Program:  Students were asked to complete and submit an electronic worksheet, along with two photos, to be included in the graduation program.  It is a keepsake item for the graduates.  If your student did not get this information to Mr. Spackman already, is too late and they may not have a page in the program.

Video:  Members of the Class of 2019 are compiling a commemorative video/slide show to be shown during the graduation ceremony.  Students were contacted via email and requested to send pictures, and there were after school gatherings for group photos. 

Tickets:  Seating in Matesich Theatre at ODU, the location for graduation, is limited- even more so this year after extensive renovations.  Families are receiving five tickets tonight.  Children who are old enough to walk on their own without assistance will require their own ticket.  These tickets and any extra tickets available are being distributed today at the graduation meeting.    

Caps and Gowns:  Students are receiving their caps and gowns at the end of today’s meeting.  Students should dress professionally under their gown on graduation day.  Please, no jeans, as they will be visible during the ceremony.  To clarify what your student may receive in the package, here are the details:

=         Each bag contains one black gown, one cap, and one gold tassel.  Please remove the gown from the bag to let the wrinkles release before graduation!

=         White cord:  this cord is for students who have met the Ohio Department of Education requirements for an honors diploma.  All students have had their records checked to confirm if they will meet the criteria for this cord, and those who have met it will receive this cord tonight.

=         Note to Students Earning the AA from ODU:  You will re-wear your ODU cap, gown and tassel for TCS graduation, with the addition of your gold TCS tassel on your cap.  If you have earned the honors diploma, you will also wear your white cord for TCS graduation.

=         Students in NHS have also received cords that can be worn at graduation.

A note about transcripts:  It remains your student’s responsibility to complete any outstanding college and scholarships applications and request transcripts to be mailed.  The transcript request form is available on the TCS website under the “Student” tab.  This form is the ONLY way to request transcripts, and we need at least two weeks to fill all transcript requests.  Final transcripts including a graduation date will begin being mailed mid-June.  

GRADUATION EVENTS, DATES AND TIMES

Friday, May 17th
1:00 PM Graduation Rehearsal:  It is imperative all students attend graduation rehearsal.  Please ensure that your student requests time off work during this time.  The graduation ceremony is very involved, and they need to know where to go, how to get there, and when to do it.  The rehearsal is the only time they will have to practice!  Parents, you need not attend the rehearsal.  Location:  Erskine Hall, Matesich Theatre.

Saturday, May 18th
11:30 AM Graduation Luncheon:  This event is for our TCS graduates to take the opportunity to enjoy a meal with their teachers and professors in celebration of their accomplishments.  Location:  Griffin Student Center, Room 258-260­. Students only, please.

2:00 PM:  Graduation Reception:  Families are welcome to join us for refreshments prior to the start of the Commencement Ceremony.  Location:  Erskine Hall, 1st Floor.

3:00 PM:  Commencement Ceremony:  This is the formal ceremony in which students will walk across the stage and receive their diplomas.  Seating will begin at 2:30.  Location: Erskine Hall, Matesich Theatre.
