Attention TCS Parents/Guardians - Social Media Policy
The consequences for taking, possessing and sharing indecent photographs of minors are wide-ranging and potentially life-altering.  Once these photos and messages exist, it is impossible to control their distribution—screen shots, saving and texting can result in photos and messages become widespread very quickly.  Further, there are potential legal ramifications for our students, the school and our staff.  To this end, effective immediately, TCS@ODU is instituting a new policy developed in conjunction with local law enforcement.  When a student is suspected to have sexually explicit images on a phone or electronic device, TCS@ODU will involve law enforcement and the device will be confiscated.  Because of the sensitive nature of these images, TCS@ODU is unable to collect evidence in these cases, and will default to contacting law enforcement to investigate.

Our primary interest is in protecting the dignity and education of our students, and as we continue to limit the use of cellphones in our building, we also urge you to be aware of your student’s use of technology and social media, and to have conversations about the risks these tools present.  As part of this effort, we would also like to remind families that if you need to contact your student during the school day, to please do so by calling the front office rather than calling or texting.

Sincerely,
The Charles School at Ohio Dominican University Administration
