Dear
GEMS Families,
Today we
had a bomb threat made at the school and we took the necessary precautions to
ensure the safety of everyone. We called the Columbus Police Department and
they worked with school administration to investigate the threat and ensure
that the building and students were safe. To be very clear, there were no
devices or anything of real concern found in the building. We did evacuate the
building and had teachers walk the students to designated areas off-campus
while the police were present.
GEMS
administration have also decided to close school tomorrow, Friday, March 23. We
apologize for any inconvenience this may bring. The middle school dance is
cancelled, but will be rescheduled.
This
obviously is a very serious issue and we ask that you take the time to talk
about it with your kids tonight. If there is any information that should be
shared with administration, please reach out to us at any time. You can reach
Mr. Kutnow via e-mail at [email protected].
Please also reinforce with your students the following:
=
Threats are very serious
=
Please report all concerns or
suspicious activity
=
These are not incidents to post on
social media or take lightly
=
It is important to follow staff
instructions during drills and safety procedures
We look
forward to coming back together Monday morning. We will also be debriefing this
with students in Crew and classrooms as appropriate.
We understand that this kind of incident is upsetting to students, families, and to our staff. Nonetheless, we are very appreciative of everyone’s support at the end of the day as dismissal and pick-up went very well.
Thank
you for all of your support,
GEMS
Administration
