TCS FreshStart 2023-24 Parent Information
Welcome to The Charles School at Ohio Dominican University family! We are excited to get to know you and your child this year. To start the school year off right, your child will be attending the FreshStart program to help prepare them for the year ahead. Below you will find helpful information so you will know what to expect from the FreshStart program that begins on August 16th.
What is FreshStart?
FreshStart is a program over the course of three days before upperclassmen return to school where new freshmen participate in classes, orientation, and introduction activities. This provides a safe, collaborative environment for students to get to know one another and school expectations.
When is FreshStart?
FreshStart runs during normal school hours (7:45am to 2:30pm) August 16, 17, & 18. School buses will be running during these days to transport students who have filled out bus forms to and from school. If you do not have bus confirmation please provide alternative transportation for your student.
What types of activities will my child be participating in?
Students will engage in a wide range of activities including but not limited to: a tour of the building, introduction to school policies and structures, team-building/fun activities, field trips, and academic advising.
Specific activities that students will engage in vary from year to year. In the past, students have gone on tours of Ohio Dominican University, attended student panels, completed ropes courses at Summit Vision, visited local parks and establishments, and listened to guest speakers in addition to all of the work that they do getting to know their school, teachers, and classmates.
Does my child have to attend?
All students entering The Charles School as first time high school freshmen are expected to attend FreshStart. We look forward to seeing all 9th graders at 7:45 am on August 16th.
