Happy Mothers Day to All the Mothers and Mother like figures in the GEMS community! We send our love and appreciation to you today and every day!
Thank you much to everyone who attended Celebration of Learning this past Friday. It was great to see students excited to share their learning with families and showcase what they have been working on.
This Tuesday, May 16th from 2:15-3:00pm, is the K-4 talent show- students who were selected to participate were given a paper to take home to invite their caregivers to attend
Please note that on May 18 and 19th, (Thursday and Friday this week) there will be no school for students. The 18th and 19th are student led conferences and 8th grade passage presentations. If you have not received information to sign up, please contact your child’s teacher.
Thursday, May 25th, 6th-8th grade students will be going to Kings Island! Students who have an 85% positivity rating or higher average on Kickboard for quarter 4 are eligible to go
5th graders also have an end of the year trip, going to the Columbus Zoo! On Friday May 26th. Students who have 85% or higher average on Kickboard for Q4 will be eligible to go- if you have questions surrounding kickboard points, please contact your child’s teacher.
Field Day for students in grades K-4 will take place on May 26th. If you are interested in volunteering to help with field day activities, please reach out to me at adean.1@gemsschool.org.
There are only 8 days left in the 2022-2023 school year. We look forward to all the exciting end of the year activities.

Every Friday at GEMS is Groovy Gryphon Spirit Day! This Friday is pop culture/video game day. Students who participate will earn Kickboard dollars
Join Us on May 12th for our Better World Day and Celebration of Learning. This event will take place on May 12th, from 5:00-7:00pm. Food trucks will open at 5:00pm and at 5:30pm we will open the building for families to view student work. We look forward to seeing you and your family!

This week students will begin MAP assessments. Tuesday May 2nd and Wednesday May 3rd grades K-4 will take the ELA MAP assessments. Wednesday May 3rd and Thursday May 4th, students in grade 5-8 will take the ELA Map test

Every Friday at GEMS is Groovy Gryphon Spirit Day! This Friday is Disney/Pixar Day- Dress as your favorite Disney or Pixar character. Students who participate will earn Kickboard points.

Just a few reminders GEMS office hours are 7:45am to 4:30pm, however the office is closed each day from 3:00-3:35pm to help with a smooth dismissal process. If you arrive after 3:00pm to pick up students, please proceed to the appropriate pick up line instead of the front office. Thank you for your support.

This week we will continue with Ohio State Testing. On Monday and Tuesday of this week, 6th and 7th grade students will take parts 1 and 2 of Math testing. On Wednesday and Thursday of this week student in grades 5th and 8, will complete parts 1 and 2 of the science state testing. Please send your students rested and ready to do their very best
Every Friday at GEMS is Groovy Gryphon Spirit Day! This Friday is Decade day. Students can choose to dress as the decade of their choice. Bell bottoms of the 70? Bucket Hat of the 90s, tall tee of the early 2000s? We’re excited to see what our students come up with.

We hope that all GEMS students have had a safe and refreshing spring break. We are back in session tomorrow Monday, April 17.
This week we will continue with Ohio State Testing. On Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, 4th grade students will take parts 1 and 2 of Math testing. On Thursday and Friday of this week student in grades 3,5, and 8, will complete math testing. Please send your students rested and ready to do their very best
The GEMS Playground Clean-up Event hosted by family crew coordinator Rachelle Smith is happening Saturday April 22nd. To celebrate Earth Day, there will be a trash pick up around the school with a focus on the playground spaces. If you would like to participate please click here for the sign up genius link.
As a reminder, doors do not open for students or families prior to 8am unless a pervious meeting has been scheduled. The school day is from 830am to 3:15pm, with breakfast beginning in the gym at 8am. Also be sure to inform the office of any dismissal changes prior to 230pm

This week we will continue with Ohio State Testing. On Monday April 3rd, students in grades 5 and 8 will take the ELA test part 1, and take part 2 on Tuesday April 4th. Students in 3rd grade will take the math parts 1 and 2 on Wednesday, April 5 and Thursday, April 6.Testing will resume after spring break
This week is Spring Break spirit week! Monday is Marvel-ous Monday. Students can come dressed up as their favorite superhero or supervillian- please ensure attire is school appropriate with no weapons. Tuesday is Top Hat Tuesday- students can wear a hat of their choice. Wednesday is Wacky Wednesday- who will have the wackiest, craziest outfit? We’re excited to find out. And finally Thursday is, Take a break Thursday. Wear comfortable clothes to start spring break off right
There will be no school on Friday, April 7th as we kick off spring break. Spring break will take place from April 7th- April 14th. Students and staff will return back to school April 17th.
As of tomorrow, there are only 32 days of school remaining in the 22-23 school year. Stayed turned for end of the year festivities coming your way

Every year students across the State take the Ohio State Tests (OST) in English Language Arts and Math in grades 3 through 8 and Science in grades 5 and 8. State achievement tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio's Learning Standards. The OST is one data point that is used to determine your student’s readiness for the next grade level. State testing for GEMS will begin this week. Monday March 27th , grades 3 and 6 will take the ELA part 1, and take part 2 on Tuesday. On Wedensday grades 4 and 7 will take ELA part 1 and take part 2 on Thursday.
Grades 5 and 8 will begin testing the week of April 3rd- please encourage to do their best as well as be well rested.
Spring break is upon us. Spring break will take place from April 7th- April 14th

Every year students across the State take the Ohio's State Tests (OST) in English Language Arts and Math in grades 3 through 8 and Science in grades 5 and 8. State achievement tests tell us how well our students are growing in the knowledge and skills outlined in Ohio's Learning Standards. The OST is one data point that is used to determine your student’s readiness for the next grade level, along with their expedition work, unit assessments and projects, small group work, NWEA MAP reading and math assessments, and STAR reading and math assessments. We ask that students try their best on the assessments and show how they have grown in their learning. There will be things on the tests that they do not know yet, and that is okay. What matters most is that they put forth their best effort. A copy of testing dates were sent via email and they will also be mailed home this week. OST for GEMS will begin the week of March 27th, beginning with ELA testing for grade 3rd and 6th and also grades 4th and 7th

On Friday March 17, there will be no school for students. This is a professional development day for teachers and staff
Every Friday at GEMS is Groovy Gryphon Spirit Day! This week, Groovy Gryphon spirit day will take place on Thursday. This Thursday is Future Me Day. This spirit day gives students the opportunity to dress like who they they want to be in the future.
Just as a reminder, our doors will not open for students or families prior to 8am unless a pervious meeting has been scheduled. As a reminder the school day is from 8:30am to 3:15pm. Supervision for students in the morning begins in the gym at 8:00am.
We have less than 50 days left in to 2022-2023 school year. Over the next few weeks stay tuned for ELA and Math testing dates, as well as other end of the school year events and activities!

On Thursday, March 9th at 6pm , please join our Family Crew Coordinator, Rachelle Smith to learn more about Family Crew as well as plan for next year.. At GEMS all of our students participate in crews, as a way to build community in a variety of ways. Family Crew is a way to get our families involved and create an additional layer of community. The discussion occurring on Thursday will take place via zoom. Please look out for the invite that will be sent out this week.
Every Friday at GEMS is Groovy Gryphon Spirit Day! This Friday is mis match day. We are ooking forward to seeing everyones outfits!
For student in grades k-4, as of Monday, March 6th, please do not send students to school with Pokemon cards. It has become a distraction and the center of conflicts. In the event students do have Pokemon cards, they will be taken and parents will need to come and pick them up. Thank you so much for your understanding as we work hard to finish the last few months of school.

On Wednesday March 1st there will be a GEMS town hall from 6:00pm to 7:00pm to address questions and concerns surrounding the Free & Reduced Lunch application process. We look forward to the opportunity to come together as a GEMS community.
Every Friday at GEMS is Groovy Gryphon Spirit Day! This Friday is stuff animal day. Students may bring their favorite stuffed animal to school. Students should only bring one stuffed animal.

As a reminder, tomorrow, Monday, February 20th, school will be closed for all students and staff in observation of President’s Day
Starting Tuesday, February 21st, our doors will not open for students or families prior to 8:00am unless a pervious meeting has been scheduled. As a reminder the school day is from 8:30am to 3:15pm. Supervision for students in the morning begins in the gym at 8:00am. Prior to that, there is no supervision available as staff are beginning to arrive and get settled for the day. Thank you for your understanding.

Now that our 1st semester is complete, GEMS would like your feedback on how we are doing as a school in regards to communication, family support and engagement, educational quality, school climate, and more. Please take the survey that was sent via email to provide your feedback. Your feedback will help us know what we are doing well and where we can grow and improve through 2nd semester and for the future. After completing the survey you will have the opportunity to be placed in a drawing for a gas gift card.
Are you interested in enrolling your student the GEMS afterschool program? If so limited spots have become available. On January 30th and 31st, 5th and 6th grade students will complete Math MAP assessments. Sending out a huge shoutout to students in both elementary and middle school who have already completed testing. Our students worked extremely hard, even given the changes in schedule due to school cancellations. Thank you to all our parents and caregivers for ensuring your students have been rested and ready to do their best.
Elementary families, in order to ensure all of your students winter items (hats, gloves, etc) make it back home, please consider labeling your child's items.

Thank you to all the families who joined us last Thursday for our Celebration of Learning! We hope you enjoyed learning more about the work your students are engaging in and connecting with community resources.
Tuesday January 17th marks the beginning of semester 2.

Thank you all for a great first week back from break!
On this coming Thursday, January 12th from 6-730pm we invite you and your family to join us for our Celebration of Learning. Please join us to celebrate as students tell the story of their learning through reflection and sharing. Students have been working hard and looking forward to sharing their work and experiences with you. Also during Celebration of Learning, stop by our Resource Fair. There will be resources and supports for parent/caregiver supports, food and medical assistance, childcare, mental health services, youth outreach programs, high school enrollment information from The Charles School and The Graham School, and more- tables will be located in the main floor hallway.
There will be no school on Friday, January 13th. This is a professional development day for staff. There will also be no school on Monday, January 16, in observation of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Happy New Year! We hope this season has been relaxing and refreshing!
We will welcome students back into the building on this Wednesday, January 4th. If your child is sick or showing symptoms of COVID or any other sickness, please keep your child home in order to keep our school community healthy and safe
Just as a reminder, the front office will be closed from 3:00-3:35pm during dismissal. Families will not be able to enter the building during this time. Students will begin being dismissed at 3:15pm. Please continue use the two car lines. We have come such a long way this year working collaboratively to ensure dismissal is becoming a smooth and efficient process. We thank you in advance for all your support!

This week, I hope you will join us for the first GEMS Mingle Jingle Family Dance. It will take place on December 14th at GEMS from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Join us for music, dancing , and desserts. Dress to impress- whatever that means for you and your family. We hope you will join us as we come together as a community before the start of winter break. Please note students will not able able to stay after school and must attend with a family member. If you would like to donate desserts, they can be dropped off this Tuesday, December 13th, or the day of the dance, Wednesday, December 14th.
For those who requested coats from the Marcus Projects, they can be picked up during the Mingle Jingle. If you can not attend the dance, they will be sent home with your student, Thursday and Friday of this week.
Winter break will begin December 19th and run through January 3rd. Students will return to school on January 4, 2023.
Just as a reminder, the front office will be closed from 3:00pm to 3:35pm during dismissal. Families will not be able to enter the building during this time. Students will begin being dismissed at 315. Please continue use the two car lines.

Report cards have been mailed, if you have not received your students over the next few days, please reach out to us.
Student led conferences will take place November 21st and November 22nd- Please note that for student led conferences, please bring your student with you. This is an opportunity for you to hear from your student about their progress. In addition, there is no school for students the week of November 21st. But please plan to attend your student led conference
We are currently accepting donations for Thanksgiving baskets. Donations will continued to be accepted throughout the week. Donations can be dropped off to the front office or the Elemntary Peace Room. If you are in need of a basket for your family but have not signed up via the link, please do so as soon as possible as we are getting close to our maxim number of families we will be able to support.

We have made changes to dismissal to ensure smooth process . The front office will be closed from 3:00pm to 3:35pm. Families will not be able to enter the building during this time. Dismissal will begin at 3:15pm. As a reminder K-4 pick up is in the back of the building and 5-8 and K-4 students with 5-8 siblings will be dismissed out of the gym doors. Please use the two car lines. Beginning at 3:35pm students will be dismissed from the front doors. Traffic is a bit heavier around 3:15pm but but begins to decrease closer to 3:30pm. Thank you for your patience as we ensure a safe and efficient dismissal.

The Graham School, 3950 Indianola Ave. 43214. All 6th, 7th and 8th grade families are encouraged and welcome to attend! Come learn about College Credit Plus (CCP), Grad Pathways, Career Technical programs (CTE), Ohio Dominican University, and financial aid.

Picture retake day will take place this week on November 4th, Please plan for your student to have pictures taken if they are in need of a retake or did not have pictures taken during the original date.
As a reminder, the front office will be closed between 3:00- 3:15pm. This will provide a smoother and quicker dismissal process.
Also, please do not text your students and ask them to exit the building prior to dismissal. Safety is our number 1 priority. Thank you for your continuous patience and understanding.

We are continuing to work on resolving our transportation issues as soon as possible. We continue to be in contact with Columbus City Schools, the Ohio Department of Education, our sponsor and our attorney- we will continue to update you as the updates become available. GEMS staff members are continuing to provide rides to students as it is possible for us to do so. We will contact you if we can provide additional rides.
This past week, our sponsor informed us that ODE was incorrect in allowing us to provide a remote learning option during this time. We will be in touch with the families with who we have been communicating about this option to develop a different plan.

There will be No school for students on Thursday September 29th and Friday September 30th- these are professional development days for staff. Again there will be no school for students on Thursday and Friday of this week
We have been granted permission to offer a remote learning option as a short-term solution for a limited number of students due to the transportation issues we are facing. In addition, we are coordinating plans to align students interested in carpooling with staff members. If you are interested in being considered to participate in the remote learning option or staff carpools until our busing issues are resolved please complete the form that was sent via email.

This week MAP Testing will continue for students in K-4 on Monday and Tuesday and grades 5-8 on Tuesday and Wednesday

We continue to work with our school’s sponsor, Educational Service Center of Central Ohio (ESCCO), who continues to advocate on our school’s behalf on a variety of fronts to address our need for consistent student transportation. We have also been actively interacting with our school’s attorney to develop a plan to ensure student transportation. As more information becomes available, we will share with you.

Sept 13-14: K-4 ELA MAP Test will take place and on September 14-15 we will have 5-8 ELA MAP Testing- please ensure your students have a good nights sleep to be ready to do their very best
Drop off in the morning is no earlier than 8:00m. Please do not drop off students earlier than 8:00am as doors will not yet be opened.
As a reminder for dismissal If you have students in grades K-4, they are picked up in the back of the building.
If you have students in grades 5-8 or both K-4 and 5-8, please pick up in the front of the building.
Again, to be able to process dismissal quickly, we are asking that you to stay in your car and not walk up to the pick up spot. Thank you so much for your patience as we continue to smooth out dismissal
For bus riders, we diligently working with Columbus City Schools surrounding the issues with transportation. We have been made aware of an official transportation form that can be submitted to the Ohio Department of Education when efforts to resolve a transportation issue have been unsuccessful. If you did not receive an email with information to submit this form, please connect with the front office.

We enjoyed seeing so many families at Back to School night this past Wednesday and are so excited to welcome all of our K-8 student to the building on Tuesday September 6th
Tuesday is the first day of school for everyone, 8:30am - 3:15pm. Student may arrive no earlier than 8:00am as doors will remain closed until that point
If you need support with arranging bussing, please call or email the front desk.
For students in grades K-4, car drop-off and pick-up is in the back of the building, accessible from our Driveway on Indianola Ave. For students in grades 5-8 or with siblings in grades 5-8, drop-off and pick up is by our gym in the front of the building.
Please be patient the first few days as we get used to the traffic flow. I encourage you to come a few minutes after 3:15 to pick up your student to help with annual first week traffic issues.
We are excited for the week ahead and look forward to seeing you all very soon!
