Greetings! We want to first thank you for your patience and flexibility in these unprecedented times. The Graham School’s Habit of Learning, Perseverance, reads as follows:
Perseverance: We never give up. We work hard and keep trying, even and especially when it gets tough. We recognize when we need help and elicit it. We are resourceful and work to solve problems creatively. We understand that some things are going to be hard - yet we persist to achieve more than we thought we could. We adapt to challenges, remaining diligent and establishing a network of social and academic supports. We continue to revise our work until expectations are met or exceeded.
We are proud of our TGS community as we continue to persist, adapt to challenges, and remain diligent in our work.

Attendance Reminder: Students - you may be counted absent if you are not doing the following on a weekly basis. Please reach out to your teachers if you have questions about your attendance in a particular class. Attendance is determined by these points of evidence:
Logging in and participating in teacher-led remote learning (live)
Completion and submission of asynchronous (independent) assignments
Weekly interactions and engagement with teachers
Safety Precautions Reminder: Please note that the following safety precautions remain in effect so that we can maximize the safety of those in our building..

Winter & Spring Learning Plan: The data and research phase of the Winter & Spring Learning Plan process is underway. Please keep an eye out for and respond to the student and family survey so that your voice can be heard as we consider options for the 2nd Semester.
Anti-Racist Educator Update: On June 8 we sent a letter to students and families in which we committed to to listening, learning, unlearning, and putting our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into action at The Graham School. In this letter, we also vowed to stand together, as a Graham community, to embrace one another fully, empower students continuously, and pursue educational justice unapologetically. We want to briefly update you on the steps we have taken thus far:
Upon the conclusion of our Anti-Racist Educator summer study group, we have begun our Professional Development series. We are currently examining our own implicit biases and their impact in the classroom. Staff will collect data around interactions with students during teaching and learning. We will analyze frequency and type of communication (positive or negative) then use this data to inform our teaching practices.
We are in the process of creating a steering committee that will include students, staff, and families. The core group of students and staff have already met to determine next steps. We are also working with the University of Chicago’s TREP (Trauma Responsive Educational Practices) group to guide us in this work.
In conjunction with EL Education’s guidance on moving towards more equitable schools, we are analyzing and adjusting our curriculum - with a current focus on freshman and sophomore expeditions that examine the impact of narrative on identity and the nuances of surviving and thriving in the face of unprecedented challenges. We are proud of the work our staff is doing to enact this important and necessary change.

Actualización para educadores antirracistas: El 8 de junio enviamos una carta a los estudiantes y sus familias en la que nos comprometimos a escuchar, aprender, desaprender y poner en acción nuestros valores de diversidad, equidad e inclusión en The Graham School. Al concluir nuestro grupo de estudio de verano para educadores antirracistas, hemos comenzado nuestra serie de desarrollo profesional.
