College Credit Plus (CCP)

Ohio’s new College Credit Plus can help students earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from colleges and/or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a College Credit Plus course from a public college or university is free to the student, which means no cost for tuition, books, or fees, as TCS would pay all costs. If you choose to attend a private college or university, you may have to pay some fees. TCS specifically partners with Columbus State Community College; however, you can choose to take College Credit Plus courses that would benefit your future from any college. This includes online courses.

What is the difference between TCS@ODU’s Early College Program and CCP?

TCS@ ODU’s partnership with Ohio Dominican University is ten years old, and our students have been taking classes at ODU since 2009. Since our program began, our students have earned over 7500 credit hours, and we have saved families over $4.5 million!

The Early College Program is different from CCP in several ways:

Support: The most significant difference is that students taking ODU courses through our TCS@ODU EC program are supported at the high school and at the university by advisors who offer academic help in addition to mentoring. To help students achieve their potential, the TCS@ODU EC Program has prerequisites, an application process, and structures in place called “Gateways” to help students progress through college and high school coursework at an individual and appropriate pace. Our program’s history has helped us developed a process that works, and that helps students realize a successful early college experience. As students experience more success, they can take on more college coursework.

5th Year in High School: The ODU EC Program allows students to remain in high school for an additional year earning even more college credit while in high school. Students who participate in CCP do not generally have the opportunity to have additional college coursework funded in high school for an extra year.

Walkability: TCS@ODU is located just one street over from Ohio Dominican University’s campus. This means that students are able to walk between the high school and college. They do not need to pay for transportation or worry about travel time. This maximizes the number of courses a student can take in a semester.
